What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a small, titanium screw that is placed in the jaw bone in a minor surgical procedure, carried out under local anaesthetic and/or with the use of conscious sedation, depending on patient preference. The implant then supports replacement teeth in the form of crowns, secured dentures or bridges.Dental implants feel and function like natural teeth and is a great option for restoring your smile and regaining confidence.
Reasons for dental implants:
Aesthetics – dental implants look and feel good and excellent results are achievable that look exactly like natural teeth.
Durability – dental implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss.
Comfort – a dental implant is such a good tooth replacement, that you don’t even remember it’s not real.
Improved oral health – since treatment with dental implants involves placing implants in areas where there are no teeth and does not affect your other healthy teeth, more of your own teeth are left intact, improving your long-term oral health.
The benefits of dental implants
You feel great because you can talk, smile, eat and laugh again with confidence
Improved facial appearance – the loss of back teeth can cause your mouth to sink and face to look prematurely older
The correct functioning of your mouth – with missing teeth, your speech may be affected since the front teeth help to form certain sounds
Prevention of bone loss from the jaws – after teeth are removed, the jawbone that was associated with the roots of the missing tooth dissolves away. The insertion of dental implants restores the natural functions of the mouth and maintains the bone.
